Rat Terrier
The Rat Terrier is an alert and rather energetic little dog that is quick and playful. They are determined little hunters so not so good around small pets.
These small dogs are friendly and affectionate and are easily aroused, they need lots of socialisation from a young age to be tolerant of others.

Special Characteristics
These small dogs are alert and playful, they really do enjoy the company of people. You would also describe these dogs as being bright, courageous, energetic and independent at times.
Exercise Requirements
These dogs are considered to have medium exercise requirements, they will be busy at home and outside. One or two good walks each day is enough to keep this breed content.
Attitude Towards:
Owners: Are devoted to their owners, will shower them with lots of love and affection.
Children: Are known to be good with children, however they could easily get injured by boisterous children.
Other Pets: May be problematic with small pets due to their high prey and chase drive.
Strangers: Are good around strangers if well socialised.
Other Unfamiliar Dogs: Are friendly towards unknown dogs if well socialised from a young age.
What to Watch Out For
The only real major problem is that these dogs are hunters and may chase or injure small pets including cats, if you have small pets in the house this is not the breed for you.
Health Risks
A few health risks to take note of here including; patellar luxation, demodectic mange, hip problems, bleeding disorders and hypothyroidism.

The perfect owner of the Rat Terrier would be affectionate and active who will enjoy exercising, playing and training this lively and independent little dog.
