Coat: Silky and flat, which if of medium length. The body, fore-legs and hind-legs are well feathered
Colour: Black, liver or red; white with black, blue, liver with red markings, roaning or ticking

These dogs need a lot of energetic play and walks to keep them happy and content. They are classed as breed that has high exercise requirements.

What to Watch Out For
These dogs have been know to display possession guarding and are very strong-willed, even more so with the solid colours of this breed.
Their feathery coat will bring in mud and dirt from outside and will need cleaning on a regular basis. The coat and their long hairy ears need daily care to keep it looking healthy and to stop it from smelling.
Health Risks
Quite a few things to take note of here; patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, detached retina, cataracts, epilepsy, heart disease and hypothyroidism.
Ideal Owner
The perfect owner of the English Cocker Spaniel will need to be very active to satisfy the dogs high exercise needs and will have to be strong-willed.
A sociable owner that has enough time to devote to regular play and training with the dog is the most suited to this breed.
